Huawei sues Samsung for IPR infringement

​  – Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has filed lawsuits against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. for alleged infringement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the Chinese firm said on Wednesday. The lawsuits were filed with courts in California, U.S. and Shenzhen City in South China, with infringement claims over telecom patents and software, Huawei said. The lawsuit came at a time when domestic smartphone makers like Huawei and Xiaomi are upsetting the market apple cart, which until now has been dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung. Huawei said it was entitled to seek damages from companies that use its patents without proper licensing. The company said in a statement that it was committed to fair, reasonable and indiscriminate licensing of its mobile telecom patents. Ding Jianxin, head of Huawei intellectual property division, said the company had signed licensing agreements with dozens of companies. The Nigerian police have arrested five suspects namely Mohammed Zurai, Ciroma Musa, Sale Adamu, Suleiman Laute and Haruna Laute, allegedly involved in the midnight attack that left at least 20 people dead in Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State. A statement released by police spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, said the Inspector General’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) carried out the operation based on credible intelligence. This successfully lead to their arrest and also a recovery of a Gionee L88 mobile phone with a memory card that contains a video recording of the massacre in the community.

Former Minister of Communications, and former military governor Maj. Gen Tanko Ayuba passed on today at the age of 70. Tanko who served as a Senator representing Kebbi South constituency in the Senate in 2007, died of an undisclosed ailment this afternoon, Wednesday May 25th, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos. CAF disqualifies AS Vita from Champions League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday said it had disqualified AS Vita of Congo from the 2016 Champions League. A statement on CAF website said that the decision was taken at a meeting by the CAF Organising Committee for Inter-clubs Competitions. It said that the committee reviewed a complaint by Stade Malien (Mali) on the eligibility of a player, Idrissa Traore, used by AS Vita (DR Congo). According to the statement, Traore was used by the Congolese Club in the preliminary matches of the 2016 Orange CAF Champions League. CAF said that the player featured for the Malian club during the 2015 season, and whilst at Stade Malien, the CAF’s Disciplinary Board handed him a four-match suspension. According to the statement, the player only served one match ban while he carried the remaining three matches over to the next competition with the Congolese club. Two Nigerian men arrested in India for cheating women through matrimonial sites and social media sites

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested on Sunday, May 22, by Delhi police for defrauding a woman out of a large sum of money. The duo lure women through matrimonial sites and social media sites and induced them to transfer money in fake bank accounts on the pretext of customs charges. The men identified as Ozoemena Michael Izuchukwu and Ekwenze Friday, did not have valid visa documents and after their arrests were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Police have recovered three mobile phones, three laptops and a register from them. The duo were arrested on a complaint lodged by a woman, who claimed that she had a profile on a matrimonial site and had come in contact with a person, who claimed to be a US citizen. She said that they stayed in touch through e-mails and phones. The woman, in her complaint said that the said person in October 2014, had informed her that he was going to Spain from the US and will send her a gift packet containing an engagement rin...
