A wife accused of assaulting a woman she found with her husband has been found guilty and fined K5,000 or in default three months simple imprisonment. And magistrate Ireen Wishimanga has directed that the juvenile who was also involved in assaulting the woman be taken for counselling. In this matter, Mwayana Nyirongo, 30, and Miriam Banda, 17, both of Makeni Villa in Lusaka, Zambia on June 18 assaulted Edith Sankeni, occasioning her actual bodily harm. The two pleaded guilty to the offence. And when the matter came up for facts and sentencing yesterday, the State told the court that Nyirongo’s husband had borrowed a phone from Ms Sankeni, but when returning it, the husband removed a memory card. It was at this point that Nyirongo’s husband asked Ms Sankeni to follow him home so that she could get her memory card. A Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, killed a man and shot a police sergeant in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital on Friday, July 14. The incident occurred when officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, sought back-up from the NSCDC personnel after clash with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW. Sources disclosed that the incident was as a result of the FRSC officials impounding the vehicles of the NURTW. This made the Members of NURTW angry and set ablaze the operational vehicles of the FRSC and when the reinforcements of NSCDC official came around they only escalated the problem by beating everybody around, with one of them shooting dead a bystander and a police sergeant. The sergeant is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. A 20-year-old woman, Chioma Fidelis, has self-confessed to exchanging her two-month-old son, Favour Fidelis, for a half bag of rice, six chairs, cement and N200,000 cash. The suspect and her accomplice were paraded by the Imo State Police on Friday, July 14. The woman who disclosed that she got pregnant out of wedlock and was unable to cater for the newborn, chose to exchange the boy for the above-mentioned items. Chioma, who is a native of Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, said she accepted the offer because the baby was suffering from kwashiorkor, and also because she had no one to Carter for her and the child. Her female accomplice, Chidimma Unakalamba, confessed to selling the boy to a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Anyanwu, who was in need of a male child. According to her, the baby was sold for N600,000, but the couple insisted that they paid N700,000 for the child. Police in Jalandhar, India on Thursday, July 13th, arrested notorious Nigerian drug peddler identified simply as Okey with half a kg of heroin. T he accused, who was nabbed from the under bridge of Surya Enclave during routine checking, was arrested two months ago and put him behind bars.  According to Tribune India, he was released on bail days ago only for him to embark on another drug peddling move. The police said the interrogation of another Nigerian national, named Agu Emmanuel, arrested on June 14, had revealed that a drug network on a large scale was being run from Delhi and drugs were being supplied from the national Capital to Jalandhar. Guatemala government has declared three days of mourning after a fire swept through a home for abused teenagers and children, killing at least 22 girls  on Wednesday . According to a police report, the blaze started when some residents who had been isolated by authorities set mattresses ablaze following an overnight attempt to escape from the overcrowded center. All those killed at the Virgin of the Assumption Safe Home in San Jose Pinula, were aged between 14 and 17.  A total of 38 other people were injured, 16 of them in critical condition, hospital officials said. President Jimmy Morales on national television said that he had ordered the dismissal of the shelter?s director. Morales said that before the fire incident, orders had been given to transfer some of the youths to other facilities because of the overcrowding. A man flew into a rage and threw his wife off a balcony – but she insisted she forgives her spouse. The husband, who has not been named, grabbed his wife’s phone and threw it over the balcony after hitting her in the face during a row. He is then seen to struggle with his wife before flipping her over a barrier in Daying County in central-west China. But despite the violence, the woman told police she had forgiven her spouse and refused to press charges. Fortunately the woman from did not suffer any serious injuries from the tumble. She fell about three feet to a vegetable patch below. Local police detained the husband and took the wife to a hospital for a check-up after the incident.
