Veteran Nigerian actor, Baba Sala who passed away on the 8th of October, 2018, has been finally laid to rest today, 6th of December 2018. It has been reported that the a funeral ceremony has been held for the late Moses Olaiya Adejumo, the Nigerian actor popularly known as Baba Sala, who died recently. The body of Baba Sala who was fondly referred to as the ‘king of comedy’ was brought to Oyo State for a lying-in-state ceremony today at the Cultural Center in Ibadan. The event was attended by his colleagues, family and friends including Pa Lere Paimo, Dele Odule, Peju Ogunmola, Tubosun Odunsi, Aderupoko and others while the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun. The President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, has urged the striking academic staff of the Nigerian public universities to be prepared for a long strike as the Federal Government is yet to show any seriousness in saving public schools from collapsing. He reiterated to #ASUU members “to be on the watch and prepare for a long drawn out struggle to salvage the University System”. Ogunyemi stated this in a Strike Bulletin No 5 sent to all members of the union and a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent. ASUU embarked on nationwide strike over unfulfilled past agreements by government and under-funding of education. Ogunyemi charged members to remain steadfast “and resolute in the face of intimidation or antics employed by government through Vice chancellors and Governing councils to undermine the ongoing struggle”. A woman identified as Mrs. Sarah Asemota is demanding justice over the inhuman and degrading treatment allegedly meted on her by her late husband’s elder brother, Mr.Mukaila Asemota. She alleged that she was legally married to her late husband Mr. Isa Asemota and they lived peacefully until his demise on the 8th day of May, 2018. According to human rights activist, Kola Edokpayi, the woman further alleged that during the burial ceremony of her late husband on the 8th day of June,2018 the said Mukaila Asemota led other members of the family to subject and humiliate her to undertake and perform various inhuman and degrading practices viz: swearing on the dead body of her deceased husband, making her to eat from a particular plate with her left hand for the period of mourning, practices that have been prohibited by the Inhuman Treatment of Widows (Prohibition) Law 2001 of Edo State. A UK based man with Nigerian descent who used fake social media profiles to convince young women to send compromising images of themselves before blackmailing and raping one of them has been jailed. The suspect identified as Rhys Miller-Offiong, 24, was jailed for 15 years with an four-year extended licence at Woolwich Crown Court in London on Thursday, 6 December. On his release, he will be made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Miller-Offiong had pleaded guilty at the same court on 5 November to one count of rape, one count of blackmail, four counts of distributing indecent images of a child, three counts of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress, and one count of committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. A woman has claimed that her former lover wants her dead.  According to reports, after she dumped her boyfriend of seven years a month ago, she found a new boyfriend and moved on with her life. But her ex-boyfriend could not handle being dumped. Selina Mbendani (53) from Onderstepoort, north of Tshwane, South Africa claimed her ex set her place on fire. She said she broke up with him because he was a thug – but on Monday he returned and asked her to let him back into her life, warning her that he would kill her if she did not. “I took the threat lightly,” she said.
