Woman Allegedly Batters 13-Year-Old Girl For Failing To Take Care Of Her Grandmother..

Police in Bayelsa State have arrested a woman for allegedly battering a 13-year-old girl over her refusal to care for her 84-year-old grandmother. The teenage girl, Hope Chime, who reportedly lost her mother in August, was accused of neglecting her grandmother and playing with her peers.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred on Sunday at the Azikoro suburb of Yenagoa, caused pandemonium as neighbours battled to prevent the victim from bleeding to death.

While some rushed the victim to the hospital, others quickly contacted the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, who promptly alerted the police.

According to an eyewitness, “the incident occurred at about 7.30a.m., Sunday, while the residents were preparing for church service. The victim’s aunty, simply identified as Beauty, attacked the girl with sharp iron rod for refusing to take care of the aged mother.”

Vanguard confirmed yesterday from officials of FIDA that the accused was in the custody of the police, while processes to file charges against her in court were ongoing.
