Mother of six throws her newborn baby in soak-away in Bauchi state due to poverty



The Bauchi State Police Command arrested a mother of 6, Mrs Juliana James, from Guru village in Bauchi State, for throwing her one-day-old newborn baby into a soak-away shortly after she delivered the baby at home.

The suspect cried after she was arrested and paraded at the command’s headquarters in Bauchi on Friday.


The newborn whose cry attracted neighbours, was rescued alive after being in there for nearly over 12 hours.

The baby was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
James said she threw her baby away due to her husband losing his job and the economic hardship in the country.

She said:
“Things are hard. My husband has no job. He had an accident three months ago and it affected his manhood. He is still in the hospital receiving treatment. We don’t see food to eat. We are dying of starvation. 
“I delivered at home and threw the baby in the toilet because I don’t know how we are going to take care of it. I didn’t tell my husband.”
Addressing newsmen, Commissioner of Police in the state, Zaki Ahmed, said the case was being investigated, revealing that the baby had been handed over to social welfare officers at the hospital

Nigerian Army Intercepts 37 Wives And Children Of Boko Haram Terrorists

The Nigerian army said on Wednesday, that it had intercepted 37 people 37 people , who were suspected to be wives and children of the boko haram terrorists. The army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, said in a statement that 30 of the escapees, which comprises of eight women and 22 children, were intercepted  on Tuesday at Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe. He said; “On preliminary interrogation, the suspects claimed to have escaped from Boko Haram terrorists’ custody at Kafa and Abagajiri villages in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno,’’ The army spokesman added that seven other people were intercepted on Tuesday, at Kamunya, Yobe state. “They claimed that they escaped from Boko Haram terrorists’ hideout at Goropcha village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno. “Both sets of escapees are currently being screened and profiled,’’ he said.
