Nigeria starts crude oil production in Lagos

A Nigerian firm has said it has started oil production from an offshore field in the commercial city of Lagos, the first output outside the country’s oil hub in the Niger delta. “Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Co. Ltd (YFP) is pleased to announce that it has commenced production of crude oil from its Aje field located in block OML 113 offshore Lagos,” it said late Tuesday. YFP did not disclose the volume of current output from the field but said the company has capacity to produce 40,000 barrels per day. “Oil produced from the Aje field will be stored on the Front Puffin which has production capacity of 40,000 barrels of oil per day and storage capacity of 750,000 barrels,” it added in a statement. Production began after more than 25 years of exploratory, appraisal and developmental activities in the field, making Lagos — Nigeria’s commercial capital — an oil-producing state. Unical lecturers on strike over kidnappings on campus

 ​ CALABAR- UNIVERISTY of Calabar lecturers have embarked on industrial action to demand for armed security personnel to be deployed on campus and residential quarters following the kidnapping of lecturers and students at the residential quarters on Tuesday morning. 7m Children with disabilities demand review of education policies

ABUJA – CHILDREN with disabilities across the country have demanded review of all legal policy frameworks on education at the national and state levels to accommodate more children who are physically impaired in the country. They said it was unfortunate that about seven million of them were out of school in spite of the provision of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Act of 2004 in the country. The children, who spoke through the National President of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ekaete Umoh, revealed that they remain out of school because virtually all primary and secondary schools in Nigeria were designed, built and managed in ways that was totally not inclusive of and not accessible to them. ​ Building collapse: Court grants Synagogue’s engineers N20m bail

Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of an Ikeja High Court yesterday granted a N10M bail to the two engineers who supervised the construction of the collapsed six-storey guest house owned by the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN). Justice Lawal-Akapo, ruling on the bail applications initiated by the contractors through their lawyers, granted them bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum. However, Justice Lawal-Akapo, said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant at grade level 14 in the Lagos State civil service. In addition, the trial judge told the court that the second surety must provide evidence of tax payment for three years and must also swear to an affidavit of means. He also ordered the contractors to submit their travel documents to the Chief Registrar of the Lagos High Court.
