  Iranian cartoonist, Hadi Asadi, has won the best art in a cartoon competition organized to mock US President Donald Trump. Hundreds of cartoonists from around the world were said to have taken part in the exhibition of the Islamic Republic's 2017 International Trumpism cartoon and caricature contest,  which held in the capital Tehran on July 3, 2017, but it was Asadi whose cartoon was chosen from among 1,600 entries from 75 countries.  His winning image, shows the US president wearing a jacket of dollar bills and with burning yellow hair. Speaking to the Associated Press after his victory, he said: “I wanted to show Trump while trampling symbols of culture,” Asadi, who spent two weeks working on the cartoon, said. He added that the focus of his piece was on Trump’s “money-mindedness and war monger nature.” Two U.S. contestants were awarded for their entries. A 16-year-old Selamat Riayadi, has married his 71-year-old lover, Rohaya in Indonesia after the couple threatened to commit suicide if their families stop their union. It was obvious that the marriage was not motivated by money, as both the bride and groom are equally poor. The photo from their wedding revealed that the young groom placed his hand on his face as the union was proclaimed, his expression incomprehensible. His bride sat beside him as the wedding guests were cheerful. The wedding pictures went viral on Indonesian social media, many questioned whether the union was genuine. According to an Indonesian news outlet who spoke to the couple, they confirmed to kill themselves if they were barred from marrying. Speaking to reporters Kuswoyo said: “ They said they wanted to commit suicide because they were completely in love, so if one of them dies, then both must die.” Kuswoyo’s permission was needed according to local tradition as Rohaya had been widowed twice before.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation of nine suspected oil thieves, who were arrested by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Bonny, Rivers State and handed over to the Commission for further investigation and possible prosecution. The suspected illegal oil bunkerers are being quizzed in the Port Harcourt’s zonal office of the EFCC. The nine crew members onboard the vessel (MT Lady Swithin) are: Engineer Tony Edumesaro, Olu Gbenga Obebe, Lucky Oshogbon, Erete Moses, Stephen Olu Peters, Raphael Olu Peters, Gillis Ibinabo, Ikechi Nwanyanwu and Ernest Iyalla. Suspected pirates shot dead a woman and her son at a fishing camp along Ekologbene creek of Ayakoromo community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State  on Monday  night. Hoodlums reportedly snuck into the fishing camp on that fateful night to attack sleeping residents. The deceased was one of those whose houses were invaded and the hoodlums began to harass the mother.  Upset with the way his mother was being treated, the son confronted the hoodlums and a fight broke out, leading to them getting shot. The body of the victims identified as Mrs. Anetorofa Morkor and her son, Doutimi Asaba, were brought to the community in a speed boat. Sources at the community told Vanguard that the hoodlums invaded the camp in an attempt to rob the fishermen and women, but ended up killing the victims following a brawl with one of them. Women in Ikorodu town in Lagos state, yesterday staged a peaceful protest to PHCN office in Igbogbo Ikorodu, were they called on the PHCN officials to give them electricity as the total darkness they have experienced for some months, have helped Badoo members carry out their various attacks. The protesting women drawn from Anibaba street in Ikorodu, said if their town had constant supply of power, the rate of crime committed by these notorious cult group members would be drastically reduced if not eradicated.
