6th Anniversary: Jonathan pays tribute to Yar’adua, says I lost a partner in democracy



     Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, paid glowing tribute to his late boss, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who passed on May 5, 2010, exactly six years ago.

Jonathan who took to his Facebook page to eulogise Yar’adua, described him as a servant leader and a stickler for the rule of law.

Ex-President Jonathan lamented that he had lost a dear friend and partner in democracy, peace and progress, six years ago.

He said: “Six years ago, I lost a dear friend and partner in democracy, peace and progress. President Umaru Musa Yar’adua was a servant leader and a stickler for the rule of law.

“He may be gone but he is never to be forgotten. I pray for his soul and for him to rest in al Jannah firdaus.”

Umaru Musa Yar’Adua born August 16, 1951 died on May 5, 2010.

He was the 13th President of Nigeria. He served as governor of Katsina State from May 29, 1999 to May 28, 2007.

He was declared winner of the presidential election held on April 21, 2007, and was sworn in on May 29, 2007.

He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In 2009, Yar’Adua left for Saudi Arabia to receive treatment for pericarditis.

He returned to Nigeria on May 2, 2010, where he died on the May 5, 2010.

The Nigerian army said on Wednesday, that it had intercepted 37 people 37 people , who were suspected to be wives and children of the boko haram terrorists. The army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. A group of Nigerian youngsters sponsored by Lagos State Government and their coordinator, Professor Kolawole Raheem, were Thursday, received by head of unit; Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hannu Heinonen, at Finland. The participants, whose trip was funded by Lagos State Ministry of Education, were chosen based on their outstanding performance in school. The visit, however aims at enabling the youngsters have an experience of how the Finnish society works and to offer them the possibility of bringing positive examples back to Nigeria. The participants were especially interested in matters related to environment and construction, as well as the Finnish social security and education systems. These visits that have already become somewhat of a tradition are envisaged to continue in the coming years.
