Kano State Governor, Ganduje Meets With Students On Govt Scholarship In Egypt. Photos

The Executive Governor of Kano State His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR also visited the Kano State sponsored students in Mansourah University Egypt yesterday.
In his remarks, Governor Ganduje stated that he personally decided to visit the students studying in various universities across the world to see for himself the situation they're in. He said he is in Egypt to meet with both the students as well as the school management to ascertain the academic performance of the students and their overall behavior and attitude.

Governor Ganduje took time to explain to the students the economic situation in the country which has also affected the payment of their fees and allowances, stating that some states have ended the sponsoring of students abroad and returned their students home due to lack of resources as more than half of the states in Nigeria are struggling to pay salaries but Kano has been managing the situation well, as a result of increase in its revenue generation.

His Excellency promised to continue paying their fees and allowances till the end of their studies so they can return home and be gainfully employed in hospitals in the state. He informed them that his administration and their university management have reached an agreement for the payment of the fees installmentally. He ended by urging them to study harder and shun bad behavior and promised to look into some of their complaints relating to accommodation issue and the rest.

On their part, the students expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Governor for coming all the way to Mansourah in Egypt to visit them, some of whom have not set eyes on their parents and relatives since leaving home. They also expressed their pleasure for the Governor's ability to keep paying for their studies despite the economic challenges being faced by the state and country at large. They urged the governor to look in to some of their challenges like the upgrading of their accommodation and the prompt payment of their allowances.

Real Madrid, Croatia Star Luka Modric Wins 2018 Ballon d'Or

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was awarded the 2018 Ballon d'Or on Monday, becoming the first player not named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to earn the honor since 2007.  Modric, 33, beat out Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann, respectively, for the illustrious prize. Both Ronaldo and Messi had won it five times apiece over a 10-year run, and all three men were named to France Football's 30-player shortlist in October. Messi's fifth-place finish is his worst since 2006 and it comes despite leading Barcelona to La Liga and Copa del Rey titles. The midfielder adds the award to his list of others accolades received this year, including UEFA Best Player, FIFA Best Men's Player and the Golden Ball at the World Cup. Modric helped Real Madrid win its third straight Champions League title earlier this year before taking Croatia to its first World Cup appearance. Croatia's captain scored two goals, had one assist and led the tournament in minutes played and mile
