Man Lands In Trouble For Allegedly Raping A Stranded Woman In Ekiti...

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court on Wednesday remanded one Olakunle Owoeye (32) in Prison custody over alleged rape. Police prosecutor, Inspector Bayo Ajiboye told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 29 at Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully helped a stranded lady,21- year-old with the intent of helping her till the following morning.

Ajiboye said that the man in the midnight threatened to kill her if she refuses his advancement and throw her body away into the bush since nobody know her whereabouts.

He said the accused unlawfully raped her without her consent, saying the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecutor noted that he had forwarded his case file to the office of the Director of public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The plea of the accused was not taken as his counsel sought for a short date of adjournment.

Magistrate Modupe Afeniforo consequently ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the issuance of DPP legal advice.

She adjourned the case to January 23 for further hearing.

A group of Nigerian youngsters sponsored by Lagos State Government and their coordinator, Professor Kolawole Raheem, were Thursday, received by head of unit; Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hannu Heinonen, at Finland. The participants, whose trip was funded by Lagos State Ministry of Education, were chosen based on their outstanding performance in school. The visit, however aims at enabling the youngsters have an experience of how the Finnish society works and to offer them the possibility of bringing positive examples back to Nigeria. The participants were especially interested in matters related to environment and construction, as well as the Finnish social security and education systems. These visits that have already become somewhat of a tradition are envisaged to continue in the coming years.
